I own 2, 500 gb external drives, that I mounted individual in each case of  
metal case as for USB 3.0 storage/MEDIA PLAYER, no issues with WD AT all and  
Trisquel.

Is best if you build your storage device, its a lot cheaper, and when it  
works is real nice. Is no brainer.
