I'm using Openmailbox and Riseup, but these services are not free to the  
people who provide them so I have a small, monthly donation charged to my  
credit card the same way I do with Trisquel, which I find very helpful.

Openmailbox is having a fundraiser right now if you can spare a few bucks.  
I'm low income so those monthly $5s are so much easier to deal with than  
trying to come up with $60 once a year, which I always intended to do but  
cars break down, kids get sick, and somehow it never happened.
