If the purpose deals with science (explaining clearly) more than with  
marketing (being attractive) then you may like LaTeX beamerposter. Here is an  
example:

If you already know LaTeX (or, even better, LateX Beamer), then it probably  
is the simpler solution. If not, well, it is a whole language to learn...
