I have some hope for the Jolla tablet, it might eventually end up as the  
first device of this type I might tinker with.

My communication compromise: OTR with Jabber/XMPP account + Firefox OS  
smartphone without SIM card, and Mozilla Hello/Loop services over WiFi  
through WebRTC.
