Dave, it's the 'app' iPlayer interface get_iplayer uses not the web one.  So  
Radio 4 stuff seems to appear sometime after last live repeat.  If you want  
it before then use the iPlayer web URL for the episode with youtube-dl.   
You'll need to recode with avconv out of libav-tools for many a personal  
digital audio player though.
