Plugging the adapter in another USB port was one of my first unsuccessful  
try. I do not know how to increase "the transmitter power on the router". In  
fact, I do not know what it even means! :-)

Anyway, as written above, changing the channel and restarting the Wifi router  
did the trick... for some reason!
