Hello, and welcome! First of all, I wanted to clarify that "Linux" refers to
the kernel, which is the stuff that makes the OS "go" and is probably kind of
under the hood and behind the scenes for you at the moment and that the
collection of programs you will be using and the window manager, GUI, etc. is
from the GNU project:

so Trisquel is properly referred to as GNU/Linux; it's a minor semantic
point, but one that is likely to help you get better answers to your
questions and less grumpy I-haven't-had-my-coffee-yet snark.

But to answer your actual question, yes, you are absolutely in the right
place. Trisquel is a fork of Ubuntu, which is the most highly reccomended
"newbie" or "gateway" distribution of 2015 and was designed with users who
have no previous experience with GNU/Linux in mind. Our developers just
cleaned the proprietary (expletive deleted) off it so you don't have to.
We also have a smaller, more personal community here, which was extremely
important to me when I was first learning.
I would recommend that you also search the Ubuntu forums to see if your
question has already been asked there if you run into a problem when we're
all busy elsewhere doing other things, even though you may have difficulty
opening an account. I'm sure I'll think of some more good websites and books
if nobody beats me to them.
Some acronyms you need to be aware of:
RTFM=Read The Effing Manual. It sounds a lot harsher than it actually is. I
used to think the "manual" was a big, thick paperbound book that came with
commercially pressed CDs that i couldn't afford, but it's right there in your
computer: just open a terminal window and type in "man" and the name of the
program you would like to learn more about.
STFW=Search The Effing Web, which also sounds a lot harsher than it actually
is because there is a lot of information about GNU/Linux on the internet and
learning how to use your search engine to access it is part of the fun.
Google is your friend was a gentler way of saying STFW when i was starting
over ten years ago, but now that we know more about how Google tracks you, I
don't think it's anybody's friend so you might hear a variation such as "Duck
Duck Go is your friend" or "Startpage" is your friend.
