If you only want to play music to kill time, you do not even need something
as complete as ardour. You can use Qsynth. Qsynth is simple SoundFont player.
For instance, by installing software like Musescore form the Trisquel
repository, you will also automatically download a simple General MIDI SF2
file (a collection of lots of classic, ethnic and synth samples - usually
located here : /usr/share/sounds/sf2/). Then, you can load a SoundFont in
Qsynth and play anything you want with you MIDI Keyboard.
