It works in gNewSense because gNewSense uses a much older kernel. Recent  
versions of Linux stopped working at native resolution with Radeon GPUs  
blob-free because of some kind of code simplification that took place. I'm  
not familiar with Linux or the Radeon driver, so I don't know the details.
