It doesn't sound like this is the problem, but check and see if your wifi
card is being blocked by a hardware or software kill switch.
Run:
rfkill list
If your Wireless LAN device indicates a hardware or software block try the
following commands:
rfkill unblock all
If you still do not have wireless working run:
rfkill unblock 1 (or whatever number the Wireless LAN device is on your
machine)
Run rfkill list again to find out if you have successfully enabled the
wireless
What brand is on the system? At least Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Apple, and
Sony have done some troubling things with digital restrictions on the Mini
PCI/e card slots at various points in various ways. It might be something to
do with this if you've replaced the card with something else.
It might be worth upgrading the card and/or going with a USB adapter instead.
The later is probably the most likely thing to work. Replacing the card may
not work if its a model with digital restrictions on the card slot.
