Is syanptic not loading from menu the only error?  I find synaptic more  
complicated and dangerous then using apt-get  so I never use it.

Mint is really the only distro with a real working usb boot creator I've  
found.  Ubuntu's has the same problems and Fedora gave up on theirs years  
ago...   Not something a normal user ever has a need for,  and a small  
convenience to give up for a spyware free distro.
