Actually, install the version meant from dagda (get it from  
http://oldarchive.trisquel.info ) and perform a sudo apt-mark hold  
gnome-translate, and......voila! (It does use online services though) Doesn't  
seem to work with all language combinations (couldn't get it to translate to  
Afrikaans or Indonesian)
