I just remembered that radeon might be blacklisted. See if there is some file  
in /etc/modprobe.d/ that contains "blacklist radeon".

If there is one, edit the file (as super user) and put a hash (#) in front of  
the line. Then doupdate-initramfs -uand reboot.
