It would make no sense for you to have to use a particular VNC client. All of them use the same protocol. RealVNC is just a particular proprietary implementation.
In fact, I think Vinagre (GNOME's VNC client) is installed by default. It can
be found under the Internet menu, "Remote Desktop Viewer".
