Have you checked /var/log/Xorg.0.log? If it says that the generic "vesa" driver is used, then it is indeed non-optimal. Unless PowerVR made your graphical chipset (Intel used to outsource the development of some of their chipsets) and there is no better working driver for them (I believe): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerVR#List_of_PowerVR_chipsets
