The dpad on the Xbox One controller is actually pretty good and an  
improvement over the 360 one. I've used the One for a few side scrollers and  
it works great and should be pretty good for emulators as well.

The 4.2 kernel has decent support for the Xbox One controller, but support  
for the newer model (with better bumpers and headset jack) isn't there yet.  
It is in the Steam OS kernel and also via steamos-xpad-dkms from  
https://launchpad.net/~mdeslaur/+archive/ubuntu/steamos for Trisquel 6/7 and  
Ubuntu 12.04/14.04. It basically just takes the newer xpad.c driver and  
patches it in via DKMS.
