I'm having the same problem, the graphic updater quits silently with no error  
message. Also, if I try to run Synaptic Package Manager, nothing happens  
(from the menu). If I start it from the terminal with sudo synaptic it works  
fine. I will be happy to file bug reports if there are not already ones  
existing.
