Magic Banana is probably right. I've done this twice, once with a "good" USB-caddy for the HDD and once with a bad one. The "good" one worked perfectly from the get-go without any hassles, and the bad one was nothing but trouble. Not the HDD, but the caddy itself. Both caddys were for serial HDD's. A third caddy from the same mfg as the bad one, but for IDE HDD's, works OK.
