[Trisquel-users] How to keep laptop connected to internet even when shut?

Hello!

I've never owned a laptop. One of the reasons why is that I can't stand  
losing internet connection simply because I want to close my laptop. Is it  
possible to have my laptop continue to remain in the same exact state as it  
would be if it were simply "locked screen" but open, even when it's closed?

I want all of my p2p services and Tor and etc. etc. to remain doing its  
thing, but I don't want to have to keep my laptop screen open all of the  
time. Is this possible?

If not, how do people tolerate having to lose connection every time they  
close their computer?
