As for the issue of "cloud computing" I agree it's an ill-defined term, and I agree that much of what is pitched under that name is a strategy to keep proprietary software businesses viable by running them off a server controlled by the business, not the user. The FSF calls this Service as a Software Substitute, but I think it could also be called cloudwashing. I think the "cloud" could be useful as a user-friendly metaphor for decentralized systems like Diaspora, just as "peer-to-peer" is a user-friendly metaphor for distrbuted systems like BitTorrent.
There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers ;P This is one of the few open
membership forums for people wanting to use only free code software, so these
kinds of questions often come up here. In some ways I think it would be
better if there was a separate forum for discussion of free code
applications, so this forum could be focussed on Trisquel-specific issues.
But for now, we use what we have.
