I use GNOME Shell. Super+Space works here. I do not know if it works as well  
with the default desktop interface because I have been happily using GNOME  
Shell since Trisquel 6.

But I believe I would have read about your issue earlier if it affected all  
users. Would you attach a screenshot of the "Input sources" tab you  
mentioned? I attach mine so that you can compare.
