I went to "jxself.org APT Repository for Linux-libre" to find instructions  
for the replacement of my kernel.  Ugh!  Right off I run into problems:  I'm  
supposed to edit /etc/apt/sources.list .  This document/file seems unlikely  
to be editable but the file next to it /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade  
seems by its content to be the one I want.  Unfortunately, I don't have  
permissions to edit it.  I tried editing via terminal with sudo but couldn't  
get through.

Sorry for my programming duncitude but how do I get permissions to add a line  
of text to /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade?
