Alt+F2 is the Run prompt. That's quite different from search, designed for a
completely different purpose. With search, you can start typing what an
application is called, or part of what it's called, and find it quickly. The
Run prompt requires knowing the exact command. For example, you can't type
"text editor"; you have to know to type "gedit". The Run prompt is mostly
useful for when there's a program that isn't in the menu for some reason, or
when you need to run it with gksu.
