reading the first few posts of this forum thread, see Staff's rebuttal to the
noise (comment #16), which I think is as clear a position as I think I've

As for whether Air servers themselves run free software, I cannot make a
statement with any certainty. I suspect they run some custom software, which
if not closed license, may not be publicly distributed. You might wish to
enquire directly. The client software itself, at least, is GPL (which
leverages the "community" version of OpenVPN and other libre licensed
frameworks).
