I don't know why this seems to be the case, but my best guess is that people see more subtle references to libre software as cowardly or possibly deceptive.
I think that negative reaction comes from talking about libre software too
subtly. Ironic, since the negative reaction in my experience tends to suggest
that the opposite is true. But I've found that people are much more receptive
when I stand firmly behind my views and present them fully and unabashedly.
No compromises, no apologies, no attempts to douse the flames, so to speak.
