Not to mention, this script is incapable of detecting proprietary software installed by means other than the software repository. This also means it is completely useless in a completely libre distro like Trisquel; there are no non-free repositories, so the script will always report that you have no non-free software installed.
vrms is just a Perl script for Debian and Ubuntu which tells you if you have
a package from the non-free or contrib sections installed. Because of the way
it works, you must not trust it for any other Debian or Ubuntu derivative
unless the distro has a policy which ensures proprietary software only ends
up in repository sections recognized by vrms as "non-free"; many derivatives
(like Mint) make no effort to preserve this separation, and as a result vrms
will happily report that you have no proprietary software and that "RMS would
be proud" even if you do have proprietary software.
