Well, I used recordmyscreen with the gtk GUI as suggested by the mate  
Magique. It worked very well for me.
There was just a little bit of slowdown concerning compton's fade effects,  
but I am pretty sure that has to do with the fact that I am using an Intel  
celeron 1,50 Ghz single CPU laptop..
