I'd say stick with GNOME fallback or something similar.It's simple, familiar, and stylish-- which is perfect for your average home user, a target audience for Trisquel. XFCE4 is much more flexible, which could be intimidating for new users coming from Windows or OSX.
Users that want flexibility can take a few moments to install XFCE :p
