From what I can tell GRUB,the bootloader used by Trisquel, fails to install.

What do you mean? Is this the member card you are referring to, which is a live USB system? If so, this would probably work because live images use Syslinux as bootloader, instead of GRUB.
Tell us the errors installing Trisquel please.
