By the way, you can install GNOME's display manager, GDM, from the package manager. You will get additional features such as the possibility to lock the screen and to get (or not) notifications while the screen is locked.
It is the default behavior. Have you actually chosen the "GNOME session" at
the graphical login screen? With Trisquel's default display manager, you
must click the click the icon at the right of your user name.
