I trust the default sound recorder on MATE to be good enough. Nobody uses Sound Recorder ever, yet it is an indispensable tool at any moment the system is just installed (or there's a problem) and we want to check that the microphone works. -Cheese. -A burner of optical disks.  I suppose that Brasero is OK.
-A music player.  I have beek OK so far with Rhythmbox.
-A video player.  VLC or Totem are both fine choices.
-An extractor of audio.  I suppose Sound Juicer is OK.
-Transmageddon, because if we want media in free formats, we'll need to convert it, won't we? -Would Kodi (formerly XBMC) be too heavy?
