I have a question submitted to Luke Leighton asking whether the Devuan
distribution contained within the "Numero Uno" EOMA68 computer is fully free
out-of-the-box. As we know, Debian is free out-of-the-box as long as you do
not enable the non-free repo. I'm not sure about Devuan.
I ordered two of these EOMA68 computers during the crowdfunding campaign, one
the Parabola-based LibreTea and the other was the NumeroUno. I figured that
I could remove any non-free software Devuan had by default and I like what I
had read about how the Devuan OS was performing in Mr Leighton's tests.
Since Parabola and Devuan both obviously have ARM ports then we are justified
in recommending them here among us. (If Devuan is 100% free that is.) Of
course, we can't really recommend Devuan to a new user if non-free is
'recommended' or easy/unobvious to add.
Still I would really like to have a Trisquel Mini ARM port because of the
obviousness of the message and the public stature of Mr Rodriguez within the
community. You know when you see or hear an interview with him that he will
be stating the case for freedom correctly. That is a great benefit to new
people.
I'll let you know if the Devuan distro included with EOMA68 is 100% free.
