I think you can download a big (not huge) file, and track the download speed.  
If your download fails (in Abrowser happens when the connection it's  
unstable) then the connection isn't stable enough. Unfortunately, Abrowser  
does not have a verbose mode.

Also you can download something trough wget in verbose mode: wget [download  
URL] --verbose

If that doesn't solve the problem, I don't understood your question. I'm not  
a natural english speaker.
