As regards putting LibreBoot on, you'll probably need hardware to put it on initially (updating it can likely be done via software). I'm imagining it would be similar to the x200, which is detailed at https://libreboot.org/docs/install/x200_external.html.
It *might* be getting LibreBoot- it's too early to say for certain. What we
know is that the Intel ME in its processor can be 'neutralized'- cut down to
the point where it's relatively harmless- without any significant damage. See

That said, Rowe will no doubt have LibreBoot on there in no time- if you
pre-order an x220 from MiniFree (minifree.org), then all profits will go
towards helping the project. You also get the option of a refund if full ME
removal is not achieved by the time they ship, and a warranty, so this would
a great option if you don't mind the price.
