I think games actually *do* something practical. The practical thing they do is *entertainment*. It helps you to spend time you would otherwise do nothing, can be good for (depends on the kind of game) eye-hand coordination. What would you do if you have otherwise nothing to do? For adults, this does not apply so well, but for children, it does.
