Hi there,

I had this problem too. Trisquel's version of Minetest is outdated, so to get  
the most recent version, add the Minetest PPA.

Do this:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:minetestdevs/stable
sudo apt-get update

You should now have the most recent version.
