I use a german keyboard layout and always map the "escape" key on the  
"capslock" key, since I use vim and this comes very handy. The rest of my  
tuning goes basically to my vimrc and the related plugins, also I make my i3  
wm behave more like vim, I install zsh configure it, I set a nice wallpaper  
and then i'm about done.

Ps: I'm using Debian stable with only free repos enabled and carfully  
selected browserplugins.
