You likely weren't able to connect to the internet because your WiFi card
requires nonfree firmware. If that was the only problem you had, then buying
a USB WiFi Adapter is will be cheaper than buying a new computer.
However, your computer might have other freedom issues. If you tell what what
computer you have we can help you figure out if your computer needs to and
can be librebooted.
