Everything you say is only concerning the laravel website, not the software  
itself.
If you're so troubled by it, you can just spend 25 euros and buy one of the  
great laravel books out there. You can buy it in your local bookstore and pay
with cash - it doesn't get any better.
Avoiding the software for the reasons you mentioned does seem pretty silly to  
me.
