No, you don't need to insist they use anything in particular. Just not Skype,  
or anything else that requires use of proprietary software. Like, as I  
mentioned, the phone network. Video chat is not a necessity for  
communication. Heck, neither is voice. There are too many possibilities to  
stay in touch with people for me to list.
