cd = change directory. You can change the working directory to that folder by  
typing:

cd /sys/devices/platform/applesmc.768
Then, you should be able to view the values in the fan1_input and fan1_output  
files that I mentioned, to see more details of what the fan is doing. With,  
for example:

cat fan1_input

I'm assuming that your system is similar to mine, although the exact names of  
the files and directories might be slightly different.
