Yep, and the new CPUs are sure to require a non-free BIOS. Spectre is very bad 
news for freedom and privacy.

I think you're wise to do this. As you say, it's not foolproof, but since there 
is no solution for Spectre right now the best we can do is limit the number and 
magnitude of opportunities to exploit it.
