Assuming that you are using Trisquel, try installing the metapackage printer-drivers-al, either in a terminal with
sudo apt install printer-drivers-all or by searching for it in Synaptic Package Manager. Hopefully the required driver is in there and your printer will start working. If not, let us know the specific model of your printer.
