Most people get the source using the package manager. That's what it's for.  
:) I'm not sure what you mean by "real time" though. This isn't an HTML  
document that you can just reload in your browser once you make a change. :)  
Depending on what you're doing you might need to compile the program first.  
And, depending in the program, that can take a while. This is funny:

editing.) Maybe do it in a virtual machine so as to not mess with the host  
system?
