Yes GNOME suspends for me too when I close the lid. It's nice but I wish it  
could hibernate instead. I installed gnome-tweak-tool and my settings are the  
same as yours. No matter which option I select, the system will always  
suspend when I close the lid. Not shutdown, not log off, not hibernate, only  
suspend. Thanks.
