I doubt the problem is with the monitor but rather with the video card. The
kernel is responsible for the abstraction of the hardware. Trying a newer
kernel is easy and may solve your problem. After all, it could be related to
change in Trisquel's configuration of the kernel, a change that the
Linux-libre project may have not made.
