I am using Trisquel 8. I have mate and I had to install  
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth. You should have a connected device when the  
white Bluetooth symbol turns green. You probably will have to setup the  
device using the bluetooth-applet, I think it's available by default in  
Mate's panel. Also, use mate-volume-control to change the device you get  
sound from.
