Hi All !

I'm confused !
Decided to invest in a wifi usb dongle that has the Atheros AR9271 chipset, thinking
if it's "libre" it should work with any distro...

Decided to have a look at the newly released Debian 10, only to realise that Debian
list the atheros-firmware (in this case ath9k) as "non-free" !

https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=firmware-atheros

I was wondering if someone could explain or has a link (from fsf ?) so that i can read up on why there are differences in what libre distro's vs Debian consider non-free.

Thanks !

PS: The Debian 10 live+nonfree iso works (after network preference adjustment).
