You may also need to disable "MAC address randomization" feature. Set the MAC address as "permanent" in the WiFi settings.
Right click the Network Manager applet icon, select "Edit Connections", click
the plus sign to create a WiFi connection. Set the type to AP (or Hot Spot),
select the ath9k-htc card and give it an arbitrary name (SSID). When the AP
is created (You can see empty signal bars icon at the notification area),
disable (delete) it from the "Edit Connections" dialog window. Now everything
should be OK. This is probably because that the firmware-ath9k-htc is still
buggy.
