Note: this compatibility issue was quite common when USB 3.x was initially introduced. I wanted to create a USB 3.0 live disk, but only succeeded in booting from it after a long trial and error process. Many of the USB storage media I tested weren't recognized by BIOS, or even caused the POST fail.
Seems like compatibility issue with the USB storage media. I tried many
portable HDDs, flash disks and card readers on coreboot, and found only a
small portion of such devices work with coreboot. Maybe you can invite your
friends to try their USB storage devices and see which can be recognized by
libreboot and then buy the proven working models?
